Teeth Smeeeth.

My poor accident prone Shaffer had another whopper of an accident just under 3 weeks ago. 

Shaffer is my child who has nearly been hit by a car, almost drowned...twice, has blacked out twice bc of hitting his head so hard, ETC...

Well...3 weeks ago we were playing at our neighbors house and (to make a LONG story short) he ran in front of a little girl on the swing and got nailed. In fact, he got his so hard that he did a back flip! 

As fast as I could I ran over to him and helped him up. He was bawling but I didn't think it was anything more serious than getting hit really hard (which I know is still a big-ish deal). Two seconds after looking at him there was blood gushing everywhere. I was covered. He was covered.

We raced home to rinse his mouth out and check out the damage. 

At this point I still didn't think it could be anything too serious. Thankfully Josh was home and came running up the stairs to help me. He was the one that found that Shay's two front teeth were VERY loose. 

We immediately called my dad (who's a dentist) and asked what to do. He told us to try and put them back in place but they were past saving. We rushed him to a pediatric dentist (bc my parents live in OR)...and the end result was that there was no saving the teeth. =(

Shaffer came home with no front teeth, horribly beat up gums, gashes in & a huge fat lip. He was numb and beat up! 

It's hard to see your baby go through something so traumatic and to see him hurt so much. The good thing about children is that they are incredibly resilient and the next day you'd hardly even know anything happened. He was happy- running, jumping, being wild and crazy like usual. Although we did take it easy too- we ate cereal all day, cuddled and watched a movie.

These pictures hardly to justice of how beat up he actually looked. It's a horrible image but honestly the inside of his mouth looked like raw hamburger. The dentist that we're seeing told me (2 weeks after the event thankfully) that it was a very serious injury. He said that when he got hit his teeth pulled his gums back so far that the bone was completely exposed. Shay is just now getting new gum tissue to cover the bone. Eeeek! 

Shay will be getting a pediatric partial (fake teeth) in about 2 months or so. We have to wait for his gums to heal and to cover the bone...but until then he is a happy camper and acts perfectly fine! 

I hope that this never happens again...and more importantly I really hope that Shaffer will make it to adulthood with all his body parts & health. I pray for all of my kids health and safety but to be honest I think I put a little more emphasis on Shaffer. He's just the one who seems to be the most accident prone.  

Here's hoping and praying that my little Shay will be healthy and happy for the rest of his life. =)
